Imagine my surprise when I came to work last week, opened my email, & saw an invitation from a resident to be her Facebook friend.
Sunset has had a computer lab and the opportunity to learn about computers for 10 years. There is no charge to residents for the classes, which range from a beginners class, to advanced use of the computer. Since there are no tests, and no grades, it does not seem intimidating for residents who want to keep up with technology.
It is so interesting to see the difference over the years of the number of residents moving in with their computers. Ten years ago most of those taking classes did not know what a computer mouse was. Today many residents already have the basic knowledge needed, & want to learn more. Internet, email, Facebook and Craigslist are just a few of the ways our computer lab is used by residents. Most of these people started in the beginners class.
As I was touring the computer lab one day, a resident was receiving a picture of family members that live in the Netherlands. He had not seen them in 20 years. What a thrill it was for him - and for me that we could make this available to him.
We are never to old to learn, are we?
