Sunset Admissions Department wishes you and yours a blessed Christmas:  But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” Galatians 4:4-5 NIV

As I watched "Home Improvement" this past Sunday evening, I couldn't help but be amazed at the mother's perseverance in the show.  Despite a lot of tragedy and disappointment that has come upon her and her children in life, she manages to keep a very positive and optimistic attitude.

The secret for her joy?  Gratitude!  She developed the practice of writing in a "Gratitude Journal" every night with her children.   What a great idea!   How often do we come to God, with the faith of a little child, and say  "Thank you Father for all of these blessings I experienced from your hand today."

As we approach Thanksgiving and think about our blessings, would it be wise to continue this spirit of gratitude every day in our hearts?  Life brings both good and bad times, but thinking about our blessings can change our attitudes on any given day.

As my son practices for high school tennis team tryouts, I cannot help but think, when watching the ball go back and forth over the net in the game of tennis, "human thoughts can resemble that tennis ball-bouncing back and forth! "

When we come to a fork in the road and have to make a life altering decision, how often do our thoughts go back and forth between confidence and doubt?   We don't want to make the wrong decision....get hurt...regret.  We cannot clearly see God's plan for us, so our thoughts bounce back and forth, like a tennis ball, over the net of life.

I often work with seniors at a cross roads-deciding which direction to go.  Often, their thoughts consist of:  Should I stay in my home? Will I be happy at Sunset? Will I have friends there? Will I have to give up everything I love so much?....and so the ball goes back and forth over the...

Summer has arrived...and with summer comes not only growth of beautiful flowers and greenery, but also heavy humidity in the hot Michigan air as temperatures climb into the high 80's and 90's.

As you think back on your life, how many times have you felt that everything in your life was clinging to you and "heavy"....  burdening you wherever you go?

When we feel the "weight of the world" following us like hot humidity, what do we naturally do?  SEEK RELIEF!  Just as if someone was escaping the heat by running to air conditoning or the breeze coming from a fan!

Jesus gives us a message of relief as well:

Matthew 11:28 New International Version (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

He is our refreshment, our relief and will lift our daily weights off from us so we are free!  He only asks that we "come to him".

Joy Of Spring

By Kim VanDis on 3/14/2011 1:41 PM

As I get ready to go on a cruise with my husband and 14-year old son for Spring Break, I cannot help but remember my last "cruise" experience.  I was not sure what to expect and if I would be a fan of vacations on a  cruise ship or not!

By: Ken Curnes of Glynn Devins "Recently I visited four different communities within a week and sat down to talk with residents at each one. Once again I heard individuals talk about how important this benefit was to them and their families. For some it was a desire not to repeat a situation they had lived through with their own parents. For others, it was simply recognizing how valuable peace of mind can be in an adult child/aging parent relationship.

And if that weren’t enough evidence that this is top-of-mind with older adults, I came across the chart below that clearly shows this to be an important factor. Even if you question the top ranking of not being a burden to family, as this study shows, it is without a doubt in the top five."

What better time than this holiday season to consider giving...
